The BJP government of Uttar Pradesh has recommended a CBI probe into the death of Narendra Giri, the head of Hindu body Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad.
A statement by the Home Department of Uttar Pradesh read, “CBI probe has been recommended by the order of Chief Minister (Yogi Adityanath) into the tragic death of Mahant Narendra Giri in Prayagraj (Allahabad).”
The latest development came just a day after police arrested Anand Giri, Narendra Giri’s disciple in connection with the former’s suicide. According to police, Anand Giri was allegedly harassing Narendra Giri, forcing him to end his life by suicide. Earlier reports siad that Narendra Giri’s suicide note mentioned Anand Giri’s name.
Anand Giri, for his part, has denied allegations of his involvement. He has instead blamed one Ajay Singh, a police constable living with the Mahant, behind the Hindu leader’s death. He also named one Manish Shukla, whose ‘marriage was arranged by Mahant ji and a house worth Rs 5 crore was given’
Narendra Giri was found dead at his residence in Allahabad on Monday.
