Two militants including ‘killer of BJP leader’ killed in Bandipora encounter: Jammu Kashmir Police

Police in Jammu and Kashmir say that they have killed two people, who they say were militants, in Bandipora district in an encounter on Sunday. One of those killed, according to them, was an alleged militant involved in the killing of BJP leader Waseem Bari and two of his family members.

A report by news agency PTI said that security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the Watrina area of Bandipora in north Kashmir after they received a tip-off on the presence of militants there.

The search operation later turned into an encounter after the security forces claimed to have been fired upon by suspected militants. According to the police, this resulted in the killings of two unidentified militants.

The Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet, “02 unidentified #terrorists killed. Search going on. #Incriminating materials including #arms & ammunition recovered.” In its subsequent tweet, the police said, “#Killer of BJP leader late Waseem Bari, his father and brother #killed in the #encounter.
