Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is facing widespread ridicule for a viral photo in which he was seen holding an automatic rifle by resting it on his mouth. The occasion was the foundation laying ceremony of the BRAHMOS Manufacturing Centre, established by Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in Lucknow.
Also joining Adityanath was Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. In the viral photo, Adityanath could be posing for a camera by holding a rifle. However, instead of resting the butt of the rifle against his shoulder, he decided to rest it on his mouth, which was covered by a facemask.
As expected, the UP chief minister become a topic of intense social media conversations with many poking fun at him. One user wrote, “Just imagine if Yogi held the rifle like this pointing at the Chinese troops, he would soon have his statues built all across India. Journalist Ajit Anjum tweeted, “If you start firing like this, your teeth and jaw would be knocked off.” Youth Congress leader BV Srinivas wrote, “Gun in mouth?”

According to the Modi government, the BRAHMOS Manufacturing Centre, announced by BrahMos Aerospace, is a modern, state-of-art facility in the Lucknow node of UP DIC. It will cover over 200 acres and produce the new BRAHMOS-NG (Next Generation) variant, which carries forward the lineage of the BRAHMOS weapons system. This new centre would be ready over the next two to three years and will commence production at a rate of 80-100 BRAHMOS-NG missiles per year.
