Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy has invoked sharp criticism from various quarters on Twitter after he suggested that hanged Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon’s relatives and close friends could also be terrorists.

Yakub was hanged just before 7 am on Thursday at Nagpur Central Jail after an unprecedented pre-dawn session of the Supreme Court was called to take up his final appeal. Yakub’s body was then taken to Mumbai, where he was buried next to his father. A large crowd had gathered when Yakub’s body reached his home in Mahim.

Governor Roy’s tweets have invited sharp reactions.

However, in response, Roy said it was his duty as a Governor to be concerned about security.

Roy was appointed Governor of Tripura in May. He was earlier BJP chief in West Bengal.
