BJP leader Sushil Modi on Wednesday refused to wear a Muslim skull cap offered by a woman member of the party’s ally Hindustani Awami Morcha.

Former Bihar deputy chief minister Modi refused to wear the cap citing humidity during an election rally in Tekari assembly constituency in Gaya district.

A few years ago, Narendra Modi, then chief minister of Gujarat, too had refused to wear a Muslim cap offered by a Muslim cleric during his sadbhavana fast in Ahmedabad. He, however, accepted headgears of several other religions/regions.

Shakila Bano, a woman leader of former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM had offered the skull cap to Sushil Modi.

“I offered Modi a skull cap but he politely refused to wear, citing humidity,” a party worker close to Bano said. “She was upset after Modi refused to accept her offer in front of the people who had gathered for the election rally.”

HAM’s candidate Anil Kumar is contesting polls from Tekari in the ongoing Bihar assembly elections.

In Ahmedabad, cleric Sayed Imam Shahi Saiyed had gone up to stage to greet then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi at Gujarat University Convention hall.

He offered Modi a ‘skull cap’, but the CM politely refused to wear it. Modi, however, accepted a shawl instead.
