Speculations rife after PM Modi does not tweet on Yogi Adityanath’s birthday unlike in past

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s 49th birthday has become a topic of intense speculations after eagle-eyed netizens pointed out how Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not extend his birthday greetings on Twitter this year. This assumed significance in light of Adityanath’s performance in handling the pandemic reportedly coming under scrutiny even by the BJP leadership.

On previous occasions, the prime minister never missed an opportunity to wish his BJP colleague on his birthday using his social media account. Last year, Modi had tweeted, “Birthday greetings to UP’s dynamic and industrious CM, Shri @myogiadityanath Ji. Under his leadership the state is scaling new heights of progress across all sectors. There is a marked improvement in the lives of citizens. May Almighty bless him with a long and healthy life.”

It’s not known why PM Modi chose to not greet Adityanath from a public platform on his birthday. Journalist Swati Chaturvedi tweeted, “No public social media birthday wishes for Yogi Adityanath from Modi & Shah….Modi particularly is prolific with birthday greetings.”

There have been intense speculations over the reported standoff between Adityanath and Modi after hundreds of dead bodies were found to be floating in the river Ganges in Uttar Pradesh. The visit by RSS national deputy chief Dattatreya Hosabale to Lucknow recently to hold discussions with a host of UP ministers, legislators and senior BJP as well as RSS functionaries was seen as an attempt to seek feedback on Adityanath’s performance during the pandemic.

The visit by Hosabale was followed by senior BJP leaders namely BL Santhosh and Radha Mohan Singh. Speculations are rife that the BJP may not hesitate in replacing Adityanath with one of the deputy chief ministers if the party feels that it may have to pay a heavy price in the next assembly polls, scheduled for early 2022.

Other senior BJP functionaries who wished Adityanath on his birthday included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Sambit Patra, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. Also extending birthday greetings to the UP chief minister was Congress leader Sachin Pilot.
