Simranjit Singh Mann of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) on Sunday claimed victory in the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-poll by defeating AAP’s Gurmail Singh. The by-poll in Sangrur was triggered after Bhagwant Mann became Punjab’s chief minister in March this year.
After claiming victory in the by-poll, Mann tweeted, “I am grateful to our voters of Sangrur for having elected me as your representative in parliament. I will work hard to ameliorate the sufferings of our farmers, farm-labour, traders and everyone in my constituency.”

After the Election Commission confirms the Sangrur result in Mann’s favour, the AAP’s presence in Lok Sabha will effectively come to an end. Arvind Kejriwal-led party had won four Lok Sabha seats from Punjab in 2014. However, the AAP could only retain the Sangrur seat in 2019.
Many believe that singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder has cost the AAP in Sangrur. The famous Punjabi singer was brutally murdered last month. His murder had sent shockwaves across the world.
