The Congress may name former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit as its president for the national capital ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections. This has come just days after Ajay Maken stepped down from his post as the President of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee.
Dikshit’s appointment will assume significance in light of this year’s Lok Sabha polls and the assembly elections in Delhi next year. The Congress may make the announcement about Dikshit’s new role today. There are also reports that Dikshit may be assisted by three working presidents namely Dr. Yoganand Shastri, Rajesh Lilothia and Arvinder Singh Love.
Dikshit, a popular Congress leader, had lost her government to Aam Aadmi Party in 2013. The Congress had also failed to win a single seat in 2015 assembly polls. But since then, the party has been constantly gaining grounds in its erstwhile fiefdom.
