This comes just a day after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that stern action will be taken against those responsible for the “premeditated attack” on Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.K. Prasanth.

He had said, “The violent incident was orchestrated at the behest of the RSS, which unleashed antisocial elements at the council hall. The BJP councillors joined in to attack the Mayor and other LDF councillors without any provocation. After attacking the Mayor, the group attacked some women councillors. The shameful incident cannot be justified at all.”

Prasanth had suffered suffered serious injuries even though he had a miraculous escape from a serious injury to his spinal cord, which could have potentially rendered him paralysed.

The trouble had broken out after the BJP insisted for a discussion on the way the High Mast Lighting programme was being carried out in the city. But it was opposed by the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Front.
