The Crime Investigation Department in Andhra Pradesh has sensationally arrested the rebel MP from the ruling YSR Congress in Andhra Pradesh, K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, on multiple charges including sedition. His arrest came after Raju sought the cancellation of bail to Andhra Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the case relating to the disproportionate of assets case.
Quoting an official statement from the CID on the arrest of Raju, news agency PTI reported that a preliminary inquiry had been ordered by CID Additional Director General P V Sunil Kumar. “In the inquiry it was found that through his speeches on regular basis Mr Raju was indulging in systematic, schematic effort to cause tensions among the communities and by attacking various government dignitaries in a way which will cause loss of faith in the government which they represent,” an official statement from the CID read.
Raju has also been booked for ‘hate speech against communities and social groups also, which was used to foment social and public order disturbances in conspiracy with a few media channels.’
According to news agency ANI, the CID arrested Raju from his residence in Hyderabad. He’s being accused of acting in a way detrimental to the prestige of the state government.
Raju had asked a special CBI court on 27 April to cancel Reddy’s bail alleging violations of bail provisions by the Andhra chief minister. The CBI last week decided to adjourn its hearing into a case seeking cancellation of his bail in connection with alleged irregularities in a land allotment case dating back when his father late YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the chief minister to 17 May.
Raju represents Narasapuram parliamentary constituency in West Godavari district. Ironically, he was taken into custody by a CID team led by R Vijaya Paul, additional superintendent of police, Guntur, on the day he celebrated his 59th birthday. A report by Hindustan Times said that the lawmaker was in Hyderabad to celebrate his birthday when he was arrested.
