Punjab temple priest commits suicide as wife goes to bank to deposit cash


A 37-year-old temple priest allegedly committed suicide today by hanging himself at his residential quarter in Sheetla Mandir Complex near Hanuman Garhi in Phagwara.

Kamal Kishore, who was also a Punjab Shiv Sena activist, was found hanging in his room by his wife Rohini Sharma when she returned home after depositing cash at a bank, police said.

In her statement to police, Rohini said after returning from the bank she found the door of her husband’s room locked from inside, they said.

She raised an alarm and broke the door with the help of devotees at the temple where the priest was found hanging, police said.

The body has been sent for postmortem and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC, police said.
