Police arrested the boy, who was the child’s neighbour, on Friday near Delhi before he was sent to a juvenile shelter home. The child’s body was found near a temple in Bisrakh area of Greater Noida on Wednesday, reported Hindustan Times.

“We received a crucial lead from a closed circuit television footage which showed the boy luring the victim to a secluded spot outside the village. We apprehended the boy on Friday morning and interrogated him after which he confessed to the crime,” said Akhilesh Tripathi, station house officer, Bisrakh police station.

The crucial lead that became instrumental in the arrest of the alleged murderer came from a CCTV footage which showed the boy luring the victim to a secluded spot outside the village.

On Wednesday morning, the Hindustan Times report added, locals discovered the body of the girl with injury marks on her neck and one of her foot half-eaten by an animal. The distance between the temple and the victim’s house is merely 300 metres. According to the girl’s father, his daughter had gone missing around 8 pm when she was playing near the gate of the house.

“We have sent the boy to a juvenile shelter home for now. The victim was known to the girl and her family often used to visit his house. Earlier, the victim’s father had named one of his relatives as an accused,” said Tripathi.

The role of the CCTV in the arrest of the accused came just days after Union Minister Maneka Gandhi said that installing CCTV in Delhi buses was a waste of money. Her statement had caused a huge political controversy.

Last year, a class X student was abducted from outside her school allegedly by two men with an intent to rape her inside a moving car in Greater Noida.
