Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday welcomed Mark Rutte by tweeting in Dutch, and got a reply from the Netherlands counterpart in Hindi.
Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of The Netherlands, arrived in India last night on a two-day visit to further the political and economic ties between the two countries.
Welcoming the minister, PM Modi tweeted: “Welkom in India @MinPres! Uw bezoek legt de basis voor nog sterkere relaties tussen #NLIndia. Ik kijk uit naar onze ontmoeting”, which translates to “Welcome to India MinPres ! Your visit lays the foundation for stronger relationships between #NLIndia . I look forward to our meeting.”

Responding to the warm welcome, Dutch PM Rutte tweeted: “नमस्ते भारत! मैं आपके सुंदर और जीवंत देश में आकर बहुत खुश हूं। अपनी यात्रा और प्रधानमंत्री @narendramodi से भेंट को लेकर उत्साहित हूं।” which translates to “Hello India ! I am very happy to be here in your beautiful and vibrant country . I am excited about my visit to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

As previously reported, Rutte has been accompanied by the Dutch minister for foreign trade, Lilianne Ploumen, and minister for agriculture Sharon Dijksma on this visit.The Netherlands is India’s fourth largest trading partner within the European Union and is one of the top five investors in India. The two countries also share common ideals of democracy, pluralism and the rule of law.
