A plea has been filed in the Bombay High Court seeking an FIR against those responsible for issuing threats to Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India(SII). The SII has been producing Covishield vaccines in India.
Poonawalla had stunned everyone by claiming in a newspaper interview that he was receiving threats from rich and powerful in India. He had also refused to comment on the Kumbh Mela and large election rallies in violation of COVID-19 protocol saying that his head would be chopped if he gave an honest reaction to that question.

Poonawalla had also said in his interview with London’s The Times, that he planned to start the production of COVID-19 vaccines outside India.
The plea, filed by lawyer Datta Mane, in the Bombay High Court would come up for hearing on Thursday. Mane also asked for the ‘Z’ category security for Poonawalla. The Centre’s Narendra Modi government had earlier granted him a ‘Y’ category security.
Maharashtra Congress leaders had asked Poonawalla to reveal the names of those, who issued him threats.
