A photo of Rajasthan politician Shambhu Singh Khatesar urinating in public next to a poster of Vasundhara Raje in Ajmer has gone viral. In the photo, Khatesar is seen urinating against a wall right next to the poster of Rajasthan chief minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Ajmed a few days ago to address an election rally. But the veteran politician, who is also the chairman of Rajasthan State Seeds Corporation, defended his action saying that urinating in the open was “an age-old tradition.”

“The photo of me urinating against a wall is not near a campaign poster,” Khatesar was quoted by news agency ANI.

He added, “There was no urinal nearby for kilometres at a stretch and I was busy working since morning.”

Although he denied urinating next to the Vasundhara Raje’s poster, the photo told a different story. His act has caused a considerable embarrassment for his party on two counts. First he’s seen urinating almost on the poster featuring the state chief minister. His action is also in sharp contradiction with Modi’s much-publicised Clean India initiative, which aims to make India open defecation free.

He said that while defecating in public caused diseases, urinating in the open was not an issue, as long as it is done in a secluded area.
