Philippines’ homeless boy doing school homework under McDonald’s light goes viral

How often have you paused to reflect on the importance of basic ameneties in life such as access to light and a roof over your head?

There are millions in India where people go to bed having no access to proper light and no roof over their heads. And there are millions who have been blessed with this luxury, but seldom do they appreciate these gifts at their disposal.

This is a story of a homeless boy in Philippines. Nine-year-old Daniel Cabrera, lost his father and had his house burnt few years ago. This caused unbearable in his life in the life of this innocent child’s life forcing him and his mother to resort to begging.

But far from being dejected or giving up, he continued with his study.

His story became a real source for inspiration after a medical student, Joyce Torrefranca, who was passing by the fast food giants spotted Cabrera and posted his photo on her social media pages adding that ‘Daniel had inspired her to work harder.’

The photo has since then been shared thousands of times.

 

“As a student, it gave me an inspiration to work harder. I’m fortunate my parents were able to send me to school. I seldom go to coffee shops to study, but this kid just hit me. You really don’t need much, you just have to be determined and focused on the things that you want to achieve,” Torrefranca told Rappler website.

One of Daniel’s teachers, Rosalina Detuya, described him as “a happy child” adding that “He is also intelligent and actually answers during class discussion, he really participates.”
