After facing widespread condemnation for inaction in the open call for genocide of Muslims at Jantar Mantar by Hindutva terrorists, the Delhi Police appear to have finally woken up from slumber. At least that’s what a news flash by ANI appears to claim.
A flash by news agency ANI read on Twitter, “Ashwani Upadhyay and others involved in yesterday’s incident to be arrested. Delhi Police is handling the matter as per law and any communal disharmony will not be tolerated: Delhi Police.”
Upadhyay had organised the event at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in his demand for a uniform law in the country on 8 August. The viral video of Hindutva terrorists openly calling for Muslims’ genocide in India was believed to have been recorded at the venue of the event organised by Upadhyay.
Many commentators had slammed the Delhi Police for their reluctance in initiating criminal action against those featuring in the viral video or Upadhyay. Several journalists had wondered if the Delhi Police had remained unmoved if those calling for genocide of a particular community were Muslims.
Journalist Rifat Jawaid said, “Just imagine if it was a group of Muslims making genocide calls against Hindus. The Delhi Police would have come down on the group like ton of bricks, arrested them all before invoking draconian UAPA. These men would have been made to languish in jail for life.”
He added, “The despicable incident took place not far from India’s Supreme Court. Why has the top court not taken cognisance yet? These terrorists are calling for Muslims’ genocide in India in the heart of national capital. If this is not bone-chilling, then what is?”\

The Delhi Police had earlier reportedly filed an FIR against ‘unknown people.’ This had earned them widespread condemnation as netizens began to share the screenshots of those featuring in the viral video.
DCP New Delhi Deepak Yadav was quoted as saying, ‘People who had gathered there had no permission. It has come to our notice that some people raised inciting & objectionable slogans. We also received a video. We’ve registered FIR&we’re carrying out further investigation. Necessary action will be taken.”
Meanwhile, Upadhyay has released a video saying that he did not know those who called for the genocide of Muslims. The BJP leader said that the Delhi Police should act against them if the video turns out to be authentic.
