Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt and former Indian Hockey Team captain Sandeep Singh on Thursday joined the BJP ahead of the Haryana assembly polls. Soon after joining the saffron party, both former sportspersons showered praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dutt said that he was very impressed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly his decision to abrogate Article 370 on Jammu and Kashmir. “As a youth, I want to work for the nation. PM Modi abrogated Article 370 from Jammu & Kashmir, he achieved the impossible. I am very impressed with him. The country is happy after the abrogation of Article 370,” news agency ANI quoted Dutt as saying.

Sandeep Singh, for his part said, ” I have joined politics as I am impressed with PM Modi. His honesty drew me to the party. Both PM and Haryana CM are doing a lot for the youth. If the party considers me capable of contesting elections then I surely will.”

Dutt has long been flying the flag for the BJP and the central government’s Hindutva agenda. Today’s development gave his association to the BJP an official status. In 2017, Dutt had joined the pro-Hindutva troll brigade led by Virender Sehwag and Randeep Hooda to hound Gurmehar Kaur, the daughter of a Kargil martyr, after she criticised the ABVP’s violent politics.
