Mitchell Marsh on Sunday played an impressive knock as he guided Australia to the T20 World Cup glory, beating New Zealand by 8 wickets.
Batting first, New Zealand put up a total of 172-4 in 20 overs with skipper Kane Williamson scoring 85 in 48 balls.
Australia achieved the target with seven balls to spare. David Warner made 53 while Glenn Maxwell remained unbeaten at 28. Marsh was not out at 77 in 50 balls.
This was a one-sided contest with Australia outsmarting New Zealand in every single department.
Australia had defeated Pakistan in a semi-final, while New Zealand had thrashed England in another semi-final.
Prior to today’s final, both Australia and New Zealand had met each other in 14 T20 International matches. Australia had won nine of those matches with the Kiwis emerging victorious in the remaining five.
Today’s win was the first T20 World Cup glory for Australia, while New Zealand once again had to miss out on another opportunity to win an ICC World Cup. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, the Kiwis had lost to England in a super over after the match ended in a tie.
