Twitter on Thursday exploded with a hilarious meme fest after the Indian football team goalkeeper complained that he was being mistaken as former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh amidst rumours of the latter joining the BJP.
Footballer Amrinder Singh took Twitter to write, “Dear News Media, Journalists, I am Amrinder Singh, Goalkeeper of Indian Football Team and not the Former Chief Minister of the State Punjab. Please stop tagging me.”
Reacting to the footballer’s tweet, the politician Amarinder Singh tweeted, “I empathise with you, my young friend. Good luck for your games ahead.”

The politician Amarinder Singh spells his first name with an additional ‘A’ after ‘M’, while the footballer spells it normally without the addition of an extra ‘A.’
Meanwhile, the former Punjab chief minister has continued to grab media headlines after his meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in Delhi. This has led to speculations that Singh was set to join the BJP ahead of the next year’s assembly polls.
There are reports that several senior Congress leaders including Ambika Soni and Kamal Nath have made desperate attempts to establish contact with Amarinder Singh, but the latter has reportedly turned down those requests since he’s busy holding talks with the rival party, the BJP.
Amarinder Singh had to resign from his post as Punjab chief minister days after the Congress appointed Navjot Singh Sidhu as to head the party in the state. Charanjit Singh Channi later took the oath of office as the first Dalit chief minister of Punjab.
However, Sidhu dropped a bombshell this week by resigning from his post as the Punjab Congress president, leaving his party leadership red-faced.
