Mehul Choksi goes missing in Antigua and Barbuda; police launch manhunt


Fugitive Mehul Choksi has reportedly gone missing in Antigua and Barbuda wit the police launching a manhunt to trace him since Sunday. According to the Antigua Newsroom website, the police are investigating after a Missing Person Report was made about 62-year-old Mehul Choksi of Jolly Harbour. The report said that Choksi was reported to have gone missing on Sunday 23 May at the Johnson Point Police Station.

The fugitive was last seen at about 5:15 P.M on 23 May as he left home in a motorcar which has since been recovered.

“Anyone with information is asked to call the Johnson Point Police Station at 562-8942/43 or the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at 460-3913/14,” the report added.

According to some reports, Choksi had taken the citizenship of the Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda after fleeing from India.

Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are wanted for allegedly siphoning off Rs 13,500 crore of taxpayers’ money from the state-run Punjab National Bank (PNB). Modi, who is currently languishing in a jail in London, is currently facing an extradition trial.

Both Modi and Choksi hail from PM Modi’s home state of Gujarat and were seen posing for the camera with the Indian premier in Davos days before fleeing from India.
