For the first time, the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched a programme in collaboration with a social media site to select 100 women achievers of India who have made a difference in society.

The initiative which will be launched on July 15 2015 has tied up with Facebook for selecting hundred women. A list of nominations would be put up on the official page of the WCD Ministry, out of which the jury will select the best ones and confer them with awards.

The WCD Minister, Maneka Gandhi has approached several politicians and celebrities, inviting them to participate in the programme and nominate someone they knew. She has also urged them to post information about the program on their social networking pages to spread the word.

The motive behind this initiative is to thank and honor those women who have made a difference in society for the better.

Maneka Gandhi says, “We never get a chance to thank women around us, so, one can utilize this golden opportunity to thank those who’ve made a change in society.”

The ministry’s official Facebook page will accept registration between July 15 and September 30. The selected women would then be honored by the President on January 22, 2016. Co-incidentally, January 22 is the same date when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign, ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ would complete its one year.
