Delhi LG Najeeb Jung has sparked off a fresh controversy by calling his office as the real government of Delhi.
Najeeb Jung, while writing to the state government declaring Swati Maliwal’s appointment as DCW chief null and void said that the constitutional definition of government in Delhi was ‘lieutenant governor.’
He wrote, ” The constitutionally valid and consistent definition of government is the lieutenant governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.”
This letter is bound to enrage the AAP led government, which won a historic mandate in Delhi earlier this year by winning 67 out of 70 seats.
Critics have accused BJP of running politics of vendetta by using the LG’s office, which reports to the central government led by BJP, to avenge Delhi’s loss.
AAP has been at loggerheads with the centre over administrative powers and who has the right to make appointments of key posts.
Delhi government recently moved court against Jung’s decision to appoint new head of Anti Corruption Branch.
