BJP MP Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday called late Rajiv Gandhi the ‘architect of modern India’ as he paid tribute to the former prime minister on his death anniversary. However, the former Congress MP deleted his tweet allegedly under duress from the BJP leadership, prompting netizens to condemn the young leader from Madhya Pradesh.

Scindia, whose father Madhavrao Scindia was also associated with the Congress until his death 2001, tweeted on Friday, “Tributes to the architect of modern India, Bharat Ratna, late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.”

However, Twitterati were stunned to see that Scindia had deleted his tweet and replaced it with a new social media post, where he had chosen to omit ‘the architect of modern India’ and ‘Bharat Ratna.’ The new tweet by Scindia merely read, “Tributes to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.”

The development earned Scindia considerable ridicule with many accusing the current leadership of the BJP of coercing the former to delete the tweet showering praises on Rajiv Gandhi. Scindia’s former colleague, Digivijay Singh, said that he was not surprised.

Scindia had left the Congress with nearly two dozen MLAs to join the BJP last year after his 18 years of association with the Congress. His action had caused the Congress government headed by Kamal Nath to fall in Madhya Pradesh.
