Jos Buttler on Monday scored a remarkable century to script England’s fourth successive win in the T20 World Cup as skipper Eoin Morgan beats Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record to become the most successful captain in T20 internationals. England beat Sri Lanka by 26 runs to maintain their unbeaten run in the ongoing competition.
Batting first, England put up a total of 163-4 in 20 overs with Jos Buttler scoring a brilliant century. He remained unbeaten at 101 runs with his knock including six sixes and six boundaries. Buttler’s knock assumed significance given that England were down to 47-3 in the first 10 overs of the innings.
Buttler added 112 runs for the fourth wicket, helping England stage a remarkable comeback in the game. Morgan made 40 in just 36 balls.
Buttler was also involved in two run-outs while keeping the wickets for his side.
Sri Lanka were never in the race when they began their run chase. Mr. Dependable Aadil Rashid conceded just 19 runs in four wickets to pick up two wickets. Chris Jordan and Moeen Ali also scalped two wickets each. Chris Woakes and Liam Livingstone shared one wicket each.
In the end, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 137 in 19 overs, losing the match by 26 runs. Buttler was adjudged Man Of The Match for his all-around performance.
Speaking after the match, Buttler said that Morgan never showed ‘too much emotions’ adding that his skipper’s knock too was ‘incredible.’ Buttler said that he was pleased to have put up such a total despite there not being ‘the best of the condition.’
Buttler has now scored centuries in all three formats of the game.
With today’s win, Eoin Morgan beat Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record to become the most successful T20 International captain in world cricket. He has now 43 wins under his belt as opposed to 42 registered by Dhoni for India.
England had earlier defeated West Indies, Bangladesh and Australia convincingly in the competition.
