A Hyderabad constable has become an internet sensation for breastfeeding a two-month-old abandoned baby in the city. K Priyanka, who is a constable with the Hyderabad Police breastfed a two-month-old baby, who was found abandoned near Osmania Hospital on Sunday.
“My husband, who is a constable told me about the baby&I immediately decided to see her. Upon seeing her I realised she was hungry and breastfed her. I felt happy,” she was quoted by news agency ANI.
Prinyanka’s gesture earned her plaudits from social media users and her superiors in the police department. Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, was quoted by Deccan Chronicle, “The work done by K. Priyanka, women PC of 2014 batch of Begumpet, as a mother and a police officer is highly appreciable and the timely action of M. Ravinder, 2010 batch PC 2821 of PS Afzalgunj, Hyderabad, is appreciable,”
“This has brought year-end cheer after hard work to duty all through,” Kumar added. Priyanka is currently on her maternity leave.
On social media, one user said, “I salute you Ma’am.” Another commented, “Humanity is not totally gone.” One user tweeted, “Very good. Congratulations upon your greate humanitarian motherly treatment to the young kid by breast feeding. Angels are still available in this World.” “Great mam, other than being a law enforcer you are also a good mother to a new born kid. God bless you and your family,” wrote another user.
The baby was brought to police by one Mohammed Irfan, who said that a woman had handed over to him to look after. According to him, the woman, who was in inebriated condition, requested him to hold the baby as she went to fetch some water to drink. But she never returned, forcing Irfan to contact the police.
The baby has now been identified as Fatima.
