Twitter has exploded with anger with activists demanding the arrest of Hindu religious leader, Yatindra Nath Giri, for his reported comments on the need to change the Indian constitution and end reservation for Dalits. Hashtag #ArrestYatindraNathGiri has become a top national trend as netizens demanded the arrest of the leader of Juna Akhada for his controversial statements to the media.
This was after a Hindi website attributed several highly controversial statements to Giri including the demand for the change of the Indian constitution, doing away with the reservation for Dalits, ban on the Indian Medical Association and madrasas.
Giri, according to the Aamar Ujala website, also demanded the enactment of a new law that would make it a criminal offence to have more than two children. He also reportedly called the IMA a Christian organisation and said that the top medical body should be disbanded since Ayurveda was capable of treating all kinds of diseases including coronavirus.
According to the website, Giri also demanded a ban on madrasas, religious schools for Muslims, and said that 98% of Indian Muslims were Hindus, adding that Hindus should welcome Muslim girls into their faith.
Giri’s objectionable statements evoked angry reactions from activists, who demanded his arrest.

Ask this man what specific amendments he wants in the present constitution of India? Does he have any realistic suggestions or academic knowledge or political consciousness to suggest improvements in the existing constitution? Is he even of sound mind? No! #ArrestYatindraNathGiri pic.twitter.com/KKvIs3gTj3
