Just days after the Punjab and Haryana High Court sentenced the self-proclaimed godman, Gurmeet Singh, to 20 years in jail for raping two of his disciples, the cops in Haryana have now started a hunt for his adopted daughter, Honeypreet Singh.
The cops have issued alerts at airports and other exit points in the state. She’s believed to have gone underground. Honeypreet’s husband had accused the rapist baba of having an illicit relationship with his wife.
Honeypreet was seen accompanying the rapist baba in the court both on the day the latter was convicted by the high court and also when he was given the jail sentence. According to some reports, the rapist baba had insistence that Honeypreet be allowed to stay with him in the jail.
This has come after it emerged that the baba was plotting to escape using code word ‘red bag’ when he was convicted in rape case. He had arrived at the court in a cavalcade of more than 200 cars, in violation of the section 144, which was imposed in Sirsa, Panchkula and other sensitive places fearing violence by his followers.
The news of his conviction had triggered a large-scale violence killing 38 people and injuring more than 250 others as Singh’s followers damaged crores worth properties in Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The High Court had ordered the state government to seize his properties to compensate the losses caused by his followers.
The state’s BJP government, which has always extended VVIP treatment to the rapist baba, was admonished by the court for being a complicit in the violence perpetrated by his followers.
In an extraordinary development, the court had even chided Prime Minister Narendra Modi by reminding that he was ‘not the PM of the BJP but the whole country.’
