An eye witness to Wednesday’s helicopter crash has claimed that General Bipin Rawat was alive after the accident and he had asked for water.
Shiv Kumar, a contractor, said that he was visiting his brother, who works in a tea estate. Kumar said that he saw the helicopter falling in flames. Noth he and his brother rushed to the spot, adding that he saw three bodies fall from the helicopter.
“We saw three bodies fall…one man was alive. He asked for water. We pulled him out in a bedsheet and he was taken away by rescuers,” Kumar was quoted by NDTV.
Kumar said that he was informed several hours later that the man who asked for water was India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat.
He added, “I could not believe that this man did so much for the country…and could not even get water. I could not sleep all night.”
India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife were killed in a helicopter crash. The military helicopter carrying General Rawat, his wife and 12 other armed forces personnel had crashed in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
