BJP’s Delhi East candidate Gautam Gambhir is all set to secure a big win in this year’s Lok Sabha polls after he took an unassailable lead of nearly four lakh votes after he received 650239 votes. In contrast, Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress got 292635 votes, while Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party was placed at a distant third with 207248 votes.
Gambhir had only joined the BJP this year. His electoral success assumes significance since he will be elected to the parliament in his very first attempt despite having no previous experience in politics.
As his victory became certain, Gambhir launched a tirade against his rivals including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Targeting Lovely and Atishi, he wrote, “Neither it’s a ‘Lovely’ cover drive and nor it is an ‘आतिशी’ बल्लेबाज़ी। It’s just the BJP’s ‘गंभीर’ ideology which people have supported. Thanks a lot to all the @BJP4India and @BJP4Delhi team-mates for getting this mandate. We won’t fail people’s choice. #EkBaarPhirModiSarkar”

He then slammed Kejriwal accusing him of having sold his conscience. He wrote, “Arvind Kejriwal has sold his conscience and belief in this election. He will be voted out of power in 8 months’ time. The AAP has only spread mud in Delhi. Lotus (BJP’s election symbol) will bloom in the same mud.”

During the election campaign, the AAP had accused Gambhir of distributing pamphlets casting aspersion on Atishi’s character. However, the former India cricketer had vehemently rejected those allegations and vowed to quit politics if Kejriwal provided evidence to support his party’s allegations. He had even sent a defamation notice to AAP leaders.
