This was after Atishi blamed Gambhir for circulating pamphlets that cast aspersion on her character. Atishi read out the content from the pamphlet in a news conference. She broke down many times during her media interaction.

Taking a dim view of Atishi’s allegations, Gambhir had dared the Aam Aadmi Party to prove its allegations against him, adding that he will quit politics if they were found to be true.

Later, he had posted a series of tweets, Gambhir had said that he was ashmed of having a ‘CM like Arvind Kejriwal.’

Calling Kejriwal a filth, Gambhir had also tweeted, “I abhor your act of outraging a woman’s modesty @ArvindKejriwal and that too your own colleague. And all this for winning elections? U r filth Mr CM and someone needs ur very own झाड़ू to clean ur dirty mind.”

Kejriwal, for his part, had tweeted, “Never imagined Gautam Gambhir to stoop so low. How can women expect safety if people wid such mentality are voted in? Atishi, stay strong. I can imagine how difficult it must be for u. It is precisely this kind of forces we have to fight against.”

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav too had condemned the circulation of pamphlets against Atishi. He wrote on Twitter, “The letter circulated about @AtishiAAP is a new, distressing and disturbing low. The BJP needs to realise that it’s better to lose with dignity than to lose all dignity.”

Elections to all seven seats of Delhi will be held on 12 May with the counting scheduled for 23 May.
