Former mayor of Muzaffarpur, Sameer Kumar, was assassinated with his driver in the heart of Muzaffarpur in Bihar on Sunday evening. The assailants reportedly fired more than 50 rounds of bullets using AK-47 rifles.
Kumar’s driver was also killed on the spot. The incident took place between Banaras Bank Chowk and Maripur High School. The photos of Kumar’s bullet-ridden car have gone viral on social media platform.
The cops have not yet commented on the horrific crime, that took place right in the heart of the city in the crowded area.
Janta Ka Reporter tried to contact the city SSP, Harpreet Kaur, but she was unavailable for comment. According to local media reports, the cops have launched a probe into the horrific crime.
News agency quoted police sources as saying, “We’ve recovered six cartridges from the spot. It seems that 17-18 rounds were fired.”
Muzaffarpur was recently in news after it emerged that girls at a government-run shelter home were regularly brutalised allegedly in connivance with a government minister. The minister, Manju Verma, was later forced to resign.
One local resident told Janta Ka Reporter that the city had become unlivable due to the alarming rise in crimes in the city in the recent months. One eyewitness said that he heard several rounds of bullets adding that the area had several CCTV installed.
