Congress workers were protesting in the Himachal capital, Shimla, on Monday when the incident happened.
The agitating workers, dozens of them, tried to set Modi’s effigy on fire but couldn’t move away from the spot in time making themselves victims of their own doing.
Such was the ferocity of the flames that many Congress workers ended up suffering severe burn injuries. The police officials deployed at the spot too received burn injuries.
Himachal Pradesh’s Congress unit had planned a demonstration against the National Herald issue.
