The Delhi Police has filed a charge-sheet against former India cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir in a cheating case for which a bailable warrant was issued against him last year.
The Delhi Police, according to Indian Express, filed a supplementary charge-sheet against Gambhir and others including the company’s promoters, Mukesh Khurana, Gautam Mehra and Babita Khurana, for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating flat buyers.
Last year, the former India opener, now BJP’s MP from Delhi, was served a bailable warrant in the same case. Gambhir is facing allegations of cheating, misappropriation and conspiracy by one Rudra Buildwell’s project. He was a director and the brand ambassador of the project.
A case was filed against the company in 2016 for allegedly duping people of crores of rupees on the pretext of booking apartments in its housing project. Gambhir and others have been booked under various sections, including 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 34 (criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention), of the IPC.
A report by India Today had said that as many as 17 home buyers had alleged that they paid around Rs 1.98 crore to book flats in a project at Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area in 2011 but the housing project did not take off.
The complainants alleged that they decided to invest their money in the project since the project was extensively promoted and advertised and ‘Gambhir, as the brand ambassador, helped in attracting and inviting buyers to invest in the project.’
