Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today met Comptroller and Auditor General Shashi Kant Sharma to discuss the speeding up of the scrutiny of finances of private power distribution companies by the auditor. This was the second instance when the CM met the CAG regarding the auditing of power discoms, the first meeting was soon after he took oath as Delhi CM in February this year.

Kejriwal was joined by Power minister Satyendra Jain. As per reports, the CM and the CAG discussed plans to review the electricity tariff after the findings of the audit.

The AAP government had ordered CAG audit of the discoms since 2002 after power distribution was privatised. Delhi discoms are a 51:49 per cent joint venture between the private companies and the Delhi government.

During its 49 day government in Delhi, the AAP had ordered CAG audit of the finances of the three power companies – BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. The Kejriwal led government had also issued warnings to discoms regarding cancellation of their licenses for non-cooperation in audit.
