Congress party on Friday launched a stinging attack against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘promoting nepotism’ during his time as Gujarat’s chief minister.
Responding to reports of the Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel allotting over 250 acre land to the business partners of her daughter Anar Patel for just Rs 15 per square metre, the party’s spokesperson Anand Sharma demanded an SIT investigation.

He said, “There should be SIT investigation: Anand Sharma on alleged land allotment to firm’s connected with Gujarat CM’s daughter. No current agency is capable in carrying out fair probe. Under PM Modi’s watch when he was Gujarat CM, nepotism flourished and public land was plundered to promote commercial and business interests of entities closely connected to the daughter of the then revenue minister Anandiben Patel.
“For fair probe, it is necessary that then revenue minister and current Guj CM Anandiben Patel resign from her post.”
Sharma’s comments came after media reports that Anandiben Patel had given 250 acres of land to the business partners of her daughter Anar Patel for just Rs 15 per square metre.
Business associates of 45-year-old, Anar Jayesh Patel, got 250 acres of land near Gir lion sanctuary in the state.
The stunning revelation of favouritism and corruption had surfaced days after an RTI reply had revealed that Maharashtra’s BJP government had alloted a 2000 square metre land in Mumbai’s posh area to the party MP Hema Malini for just Rs 70,000.
