Captain Amarinder Singh’s aide denies reports of Navjot Sidhu seeking time to meet Punjab CM, demands public apology

An aide of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has rubbished reports that Navjot Singh Sidhu had sought time to meet the former. Singh’s media advisor, Raveen Thukral, said that the Punjab chief minister would not entertain any requests for a meeting from Sidhu until the cricketer-turned-politician publicly apologised for his ‘derogatory social media attacks.’

“Reports of @sherryontopp seeking time to meet @capt_amarinder are completely false. No time has been sought whatsoever. No change in stance… CM won’t meet #NavjotSinghSidhu till latter publicly apologises for his personally derogatory social media attacks against him,” Thukral tweeted.

The scathing post by Amarinder Singh’s aide came just days after the All India Congress Committee appointed Sidhu as the President of the Punjab Congress Committee. Sidhu’s elevation to head the party in Punjab ahead of the assembly polls was widely seen as a snub to Amarinder Singh.

The statement by the AICC had said, “Hon’ble Congress President has appointed Shri Navjot Singh Sidhu as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.”

Reacting to his appointment, Sidhu had said, ” I am grateful to Hon’ble Congress President Sonia Gandhi Ji, Shri Rahul Gandhi
Ji & Smt Priyanka Gandhi Ji for bestowing their faith in me & giving me this pivotal responsibility.” He had added, “Will work along every member of Congress family in Punjab to fulfil the mission of #JittegaPunjab as a humble Congress worker to Give Power of the People Back to the People through the #PunjabModel & High Command’s 18 Point Agenda … My Journey has just begun !!”

Punjab goes to the polls in February next year. Sidhu has been vocal against the Punjab CM and had even called him a liar in the past.
