British woman raped during holiday at Goa beach

Police in Goa say that a British woman holidaying in Goa was raped near Arambol beach in North Goa. The incident took place on 2 June.

The police have arrested one 32-year-old resident of North Goa in connection with the crime. The accused has been identified as Joel Vincent D’Souza. The accused allegedly raped the woman in front of her partner on the pretext of offering a massage.

The accused, who has reportedly worked as a librarian in the past, raped her when the victim was lying near the Sweet Water Lake, located close to the beach.

The middle-aged was in Goa with her husband on a holiday when she was sexually assaulted. The police acted after the woman filed a complaint on Monday.

According to the police, they have arrested the accused and launched a probe in the matter. A case has been filed against the accused under Indian Penal Code Section 376 (rape). He is expected to be produced before a court today.

The police in the coastal Indian state had arrested a 28-year-old hotel staff for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in May this year. The accused was identified as Ravi.
