East Delhi candidate from the Aam Aadmi Party, Atishi Marlena, has alleged that Gautam Gambhir of the BJP held two voter ids and, therefore, was ineligible to contest the Lok Sabha polls. Atishi found support from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who urged voters of the East Delhi constituency to not waste their vote by voting for Gambhir.

Gambhir, a former India cricketer, had joined the BJP this month before the saffron party announced his name as its candidate from East Delhi.

Taking to Twitter, Atishi wrote, “My appeal to the citizens of East Delhi Lok Sabha – pls don’t waste your vote by voting for @GautamGambhir; he is going to get disqualified sooner or later for having two Voter ID cards! अपना वोट व्यर्थ ना करें!”

Quoting her tweet, Kejriwal wrote, “I appeal to all voters of East Delhi to not waste their votes by voting for Gautam Gambhir.”

Earlier, Atishi had informed that she filed a complaint against Gambhir. She wrote, “I have filed a criminal complaint against the BJP candidate from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir over his possession of two voter IDs in two separate constituencies of Delhi, Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar.”

In a separate tweet, Atishi wrote that ‘in his affidavit to the Returning Officer while filing his nomination, Gambhir concealed the information that he is also registered to vote in Karol Bagh, which is punishable under Sec 125A of the Representation of the People Act with up to 6 months jail time.’

Gambhir had replaced Maheish Girri as the BJP candidate from the East Delhi constituency.

All seven seats including East Delhi will vote on 12 May. Results will be declared on 23 May.
