Former Union Minister Babul Supriyo has alleged that his car was attacked in Tripura as BJP workers pelted stones and hurled abuses at him. Supriyo, who frequently accused the Trinamool workers of targeting his car before he joined Mamata Banerjee’s party, said that his attackers fled after he decided to confront them.
The singer-turned-politician tweeted, “Faced a violent mob of @BJP4India in #Agartala, abusing & Pelting Stones at me•Got down frm the car to confront them & cowards fled. It’s a joke/shame that BJP preaches against Political Violence given the filth I see them resort to in Tripura.”
When a Twitter user asked him if his car was safe, Supriyo replied, “My car ws never safe cuz I always got down&confronted whenever I faced resistance•Remember, who won @BJP4India the ONLY seat in 2014 & wwon it back again in 2019?Who had the spine to desert your party (of backstabbers) & leave the MP seat MIDWAY?Let me c u how u win Asansol back (sic).”

Whilst in the BJP, Supriyo routinely took to social media to share visuals of attacks by Trinamool workers.
The Trinamool is aiming to wrest the power from the BJP in Tripura with top leaders from Mamata Banerjee’s party visiting the state on a regular basis.
Supriyo joined the Trinamool in September this year after sensationally severing ties with the BJP.
In a long social media post in July this year, the former union minister had said, “I am going..Alvida (Goodbye…) Heard everything from everyone – Father, (mother) wife, daughter, two dear friends.. I say after listening to everything, I am going…’Stayed for some time’.. Kept some mind and broke some.. Somewhere I may have made you happy with my work, somewhere I am disappointed | You will not evaluate.”
Supriyo was elected from Asansol in 2014 and 2019 on a BJP ticket. It remains to be seen what impact he would leave on the BJP’s electoral prospects in Bengal.
