Asaduddin Owaisi says BJP rigged Hindu minds to win landslide, Twitterati trend #OwaisiInsultsHindus

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has said that the BJP’s resounding win in the just-concluded Lok Sabha polls was possible because ‘Hindu minds’ were rigged.

“EVM hasn’t been rigged, but Hindu minds have been rigged,” he was quoted as saying. Owaisi, who got re-elected from his traditional Hyderabad by nearly three lakh votes, said that the BJP had ‘created the narrative of nationalism’ adding that Hindus were scared about ‘fear of Muslim minority.’

Owaisi’s party colleague Waris Pathan told Times Now TV channel that there was nothing wrong in what his leader had said. He said, “What’s wrong in Owaisi’s statement?…What you, me and the entire nation saw was that Hindu appeasement politics was played (in the just-concluded elections).” Pathan said that Modi had not delivered any of his election promises made in 2014. “It was just the rigging of Hindu minds. It is clear that there’s a Hindu vote-bank in our country. It’s what they played for.”

But Owaisi’s reported statements evoked angry reactions as hashtag #OwaisiInsultsHindus trended on Twitter.

Owaisi’s AIMIM added one more MP to its tally this year after Syed Imtiaz Jaleel defeated Chandrakant Khaire from the Shiv Sena by little over 5,000 votes. The AIMIM now has two MPs in the Lok Sabha. The BJP ended up winning 303 seats as opposed to its 282 tally, secured five years ago.
