Punjab Kings on Saturday defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by five runs in a low-scoring match of the IPL in Sharjah.

Batting first, Punjab Kings put up a total of 125-7 in 20 overs, but Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to chase that and ended their innings, five run short of the target. Aiden Markram was the top scorer for Punjab Kings with a knock of 27 runs. Skipper KL Rahul contributed with 21 runs.

Jason Holder was the pick of the bowler for Sunrisers as he finished with a spell of 3-19. Holder was also instrumental with the bat, emerging as the top scorer for his side when chasing the target unsuccessfully. He played a knock of 47 runs.

Wriddhiman Saha made 31 with rest of the batsmen failing to impress with the bat.

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson singled out Holder for his impressive all-around performance.

Williamson said after the match, “I think the bowling and fielding did a fantastic job. The surface was a tough one. We were certainly backing ourselves to get close. Brilliant individual effort from Jason Holder. It has been a frustrating season. We need to learn a few lessons from the first half. For us, it was about building a platform. It was quite a challenge. The games come think and fast. The challenge is to pick ourselves up and come back. Every team is a strong team. We know what it takes.”

Sunrisers had suffered an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals in their last match.

In another match played today, Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals by 33 runs. Delhi Capitals had made 154-6 in their quota of 20 overs. But, Rajasthan Royals fell short of 33 runs as they ended their innings at 121-6
