Indian army on Monday court-martialled and sentenced its six soldiers to life imprisonment for their role in the infamous 2010 Machil fake encounter.
Confirming the imprisonment, Udhampur based northern command GoC said that all six army men including two officers had been given life imprisonment in Machil fake encounter case.
The Machil fake encounter took place in 2010 in north Kashmir along the LoC, where three Kashmiri youth were killed in cold -blood murder and later dubbed by the army as foreign militants.
The families of three victims had lodged missing report with local police station. During the preliminary investigation police established that army claim of killing three militants was fake and they had killed three innocent people.
Following the killing of three youths in fake encounter Kashmir had witnessed three-month long agitation in which 120 Kashmiri youth were killed by the security forces during protests.
In 2014 army had announced court martial proceedings against its guilty men.
