The actor was had recently stoked controversy after sharing a meme on his ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. He was widely condemned for degrading a woman with her minor daughter by likening his relationship with her to an ‘exit poll.’ The Maharashtra Commission for Women and the National Commission for Women had served him notices for his controversial tweet. Faced with condemnation and public criticism, Vivek was forced to delete his controversial tweet.
His act had, however, led to a war of words with actress Sonam Kapoor, who had reacted to Vivek’s meme on Aishwarya by terming it ‘disgusting and classless.’
In the meme shared by Vivek, Aishwarya was seen with Salman, who she reportedly dated before being romantically linked with Vivek Oberoi. Right at the bottom of the collage, Aishwarya was also seen with her husband Abhishek Bachchan and daughter Aaradhya. The meme termed Aishwarya’s relationship with Salman an ‘opinion poll’ and likened her association with Vivek as ‘exit poll’ while her marriage with Abhishek was called a ‘result.’
Reacting to Vivek’s tweet, Salman had said that he was too busy with his work and did not have time to pay attention to tweets and memes.
Vivek’s biopic on Narendra Modi was scheduled to be released during the Lok Sabha polls, but the Election Commission had banned its release after political parties complained of undue advantage for the BJP. The national poll body had said that the movie could be released after the election process is over. The counting of votes for this year’s Lok Sabha polls will be held on 23 May.
