The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the release of Mohammed Zubair of Alt News forthwith in all pending cases in Uttar Pradesh. The top court also ordered the disbanding of the SIT formed by the UP Police for the investigation of FIRs.
The Supreme Court said that the SIT formed by the Uttar Pradesh Police ‘shall be held redundant and be disbanded.’
The court, however, said that Zubair can approach the high court seeking the quashing of FIRs filed against him.
The Supreme Court Bench led by Justice DY Chandrach also directed to ‘transfer all UP FIRs to Delhi Police Special Cell.’ This will also apply to all future FIRs that may be filed in future on the basis of the same tweets.
“The investigation into the above FIRs shall stand transferred from the Uttar Pradesh Police to the Special Cell of Delhi Police, as a consequence of which the SIT constituted by UP Police DGP shall stand disbanded,” Livelaw quoted the top court as saying.
