Comedian-actor Sunil Grover, whose character Dr Mashoor Gulati became a national craze from The Kapil Sharma Show, has broken his silence on why he decided not to return to the show hosted by his ex-friend and co-star Kapil Sharma. Salman Khan and Katrina had appeared on the show to promote their upcoming film Bharat. Sunil too was reportedly asked by the film’s PR team to accompany them since this would have been nothing less than a coup, but he decided against the advice.
Sunil is playing the character of Salman’s childhood friend called Vilayati in Bharat. Speaking to entertainment website Bollywood Hungama, the popular comedian-pactor said, “Mera jaana kuch aisa zaruri bhi nai tha. Jis film mein Salman Khan hai, Katrina Kaif hai toh mukhe nahi lagta ki aapko promotion ke liye aur kisi element ki zarurat hai. Aur mera mann nahi kiya jaaneka toh mai nahi gaya (It was not necessary for me to go there because if you have Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif promoting a film, you don’t need any other element. Also, I did not feel like going there so I did not go.)”
So, does it mean that it’s all over between him and Kapil Sharma? Sunil told the website that he intended to leave his future in the hands of destiny. “Lot of time destiny plays a part in deciding how much would your presence be in a certain project. It is all related to destiny. A lot of things happened, lot of beautiful things happened too. I got a lot of love and recognition working with him and I would always remember that. If it is written in my destiny, I would work with him again.”
It’s not that Sunil has stayed away from promoting the film altogether. He’s been giving interviews as part of the film’s promotion. Last week, he shared a series of photos of his media engagements as part of his promotional campaign for Bharat. Sharing a photo of his media interaction, Sunil had written, “Not many films are made like ‘Bharat’. Feel lucky to be a part of this Film. ”
He’s also been actively sharing the trailers and teasers of the film using his social media pages, where he enjoys considerably large following.
In December last year, Sunil was asked why he skipped Kapil’s wedding. He had jokingly replied, “May be the flights were full, I don’t know. I am sure some people may have turned up at the wedding. Weddings are usually private affairs. The most important thing is for your loved ones to be there. Even my friends from Bombay, associated with the show, were there. They were dancing.”
Both Kapil and Sunil were involved in a mid-air brawl while returning from Australia in 2017. Speaking to Janta Ka Reporter, Sunil had said that ‘enough was enough’ and it was time to take a stand against Kapil’s repeated bad behaviour. His walking out of the show had led to a significant drop in the TRP of his show. Soon the show was taken off air, forcing Kapil to go into a depression of sorts.
Bharat, which also features Disha Patani and Jacky Shroff is all set to release on 5 June coinciding Eid. Last week Salman had taken to his social media pages to announce that advance bookings for the film was now open.
