Chaudhary wrote, “So many of you have been asking, it may not be possible to reply individually,so here’s an update. It’s day 11 of my COVID infection, early patches in lungs, I’m in hospital, but recovering well thanks to doctors & medical caregivers. Pl don’t take this virus lightly.See you soon.”

Chaudhary, who presents Zee News‘ prime time TV show DNA, had tweeted on 20 May, “Dear viewers and well-wishers, I’ve been away from DNA for two days and have been flooded by calls and messages from you. I’m deeply touched by your concern for me.”

He had added, “I have tested positive for COVID and I’m under treatment as per the advice of my doctors. Their sincere efforts and your kind wishes give me the strength to fight this disease that has taken so many lives.”

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed scores of lives in India with the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi coming under heavy criticism for its inept handling of the crisis. The government has been unable to roll out the vaccination programme despite the country having to bear the brunt of the deadly virus. Although the government data says that only close to four lakh people have died in the latest wave of the pandemic, a new report by The New York Times speculated that the death toll could even be in in excess of 40 lakh.
