A report by CNN said that the crash took place at about 1 p.m. at 1186 Broadway, near 29th Street, a few blocks from the Empire State Building.

NYPD’s Deputy Chief John Chell of the Patrol Services Bureau said that crash appeared to be a case of ‘accident’. However, he added that investigators will make their final conclusion on whether this was an accident or this was a result of some foul play.

Chell was quoted as saying, “As this occurs, a remarkable scene took place.” He added, “About 15-20 New Yorkers attempted to pick this cab off these women.”

According to New York Post, 45-year-old truck driver Kader Issoufou witnessed the crash. He said that the taxi driver lost control as he hit a cyclist and diners, adding that the cab appeared to ‘cut the corner and turned into the bike lane, then he lost control and slammed into the sidewalk.’

After hitting the cyclist, the taxi rammed into a group of people enjoying their meal at Black Seed Bagels.

Issoufou added, “One woman’s legs are gone. They were all mangled.

“A guy took off his belt and tied it around her leg to try and stop the bleeding.”
