Simmba starring Sara Ali Khan and Ranveer Singh is on course to smash several box office records after the film collected more than Rs 20 crore on the first day of its release. The first day’s earning of Simmba was Rs 20.72 crore. The film also earned Rs 13.14 crore in the international market. This was the biggest first day earning for Ranveer Singh since all his previous films had performed less spectacularly on the day of their release. Sara Ali Khan’s presence in the film may been the reason for such good fortune.

Padmaavat, which was Ranveer’s last film, had earned Rs 19 crore on its release day despite the film having Deepika Padukone (Ranveer’s wife now) and Shahid Kapoor. Gunday had only managed to earn Rs 16 crore. Goliyon Ki Raas leela Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani too had collected only Rs 16 and Rs 12.18 crore respectively despite the films having Deepika in both of them.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “#Simmba gathered momentum during the course of the day, with evening/night shows supporting the film… Mumbai circuit is rocking… Emerges Ranveer Singh’s biggest opening day… Day 2 performing better than Day 1… Fri ₹ 20.72 cr. India biz.”

Sara too can’t believe her warm welcome into Bollywood as her debut film Kedarnath,  that released this month, is set to cross the Rs 100 crore mark. Two films in one month with both inching towards being declared blockbusters may easily catapult Sara to the top league of Bollywood’s actresses.

Sara had posted a video of herself, buying film tickets for Simmba and Kedarnath and to her utter excitement the theatres were still showing her debut film even after the release of her second, which has been directed by Rohit Shetty.

Simmba also became the highest grosser of films directed by Rohit Shetty on the day of their releases in Australia.

Adarsh said that Simmba will gain further momentum over the weekend and thereafter.
