The much-awaited trailer of Simmba starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan was out on Monday, evoking strong reactions from Bollywood fans on social media. The film is being produced under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and directed by Rohit Shetty.

With Rohit Shetty at the helm, the action can’t be far away as the trailer is replete with Ranveer in action sequences as a menacing cop. Ajay Devgn, who was the lead protagonist in Shetty’s Singham sequel, appears right in the beginning of the trailer, talking about a child, who aspired to become a cop like him.

As it turns out, the child in question is Ranveer Singh, who goes on to become a seemingly corrupt police officer. However, going by the 2 minutes and 54 seconds trailer, certain developments around his life makes him to resort to a course correction.

The trailer is packed with high-velocity action sequences with Sara Ali Khan also making few appearances. This is Sara’s second film with her debut film Kedarnath scheduled to be released on 7 December. Simmba, on the other hand, is set to hit theatres on 28 December.

Simmba will be Ranveer’s first big film post his wedding with Deepika Padukone last month.

However, the reaction to Simmba trailer on social media hasn’t been kind with Bollywood fans slamming the makers. One user, Vigilante, sarcastically wrote, “Ranveer Singh is doing an extended cameo in Ajay Devgn’s Simmba.” Another user Sidharth Mathur wrote, “Simmba trailer has nothing new to serve to the audience. I love Ranveer Singh but he doesn’t have that aggression which we have seen in Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan. Rohit Shetty is doing the same thing yet again and i am DISAPPOINTED !”

“This seems like a spoof of Temper which itself was a bad film. The one thing I liked in the trailer was the last scene featuring Ajay Devgn. He truly aces it as Singham with his attitude,” wrote another user. User Abhishek Parihar wrote, “Apart from Ajay Devgn there’s nothing in #SimmbaTrailer It leaves you with no impact. This Genre needs dialogue, good action and much more. It started nicely but ended a dumb squib. One of the weakest trailers for a big film. Disappointed.”

Such was the reaction to the trailer that Ajay Devgn trended on twitter for a long time.

Elsewhere, Sara took to Instagram to post her photos, declaring herself as ‘Simmba girl.’
